At Carmel Bay Divers, we use the PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) system of diver education. Most of these courses as taught by Carmel Bay Divers have received ACE (American Council on Education) recommendation for college credit.

The beginner level course is the PADI Open Water Diver Course. The PADI Open Water Diver certification is the world's most recognized entry level scuba diver certificatiton. Earning your PADI Open Water Diver certification means that you and your dive buddy have the knowledge, training and skills necessary to plan your own dives in conditions equal or better than those in which you trained.

Use of the scuba life-support rental package during the pool training. 5. One weekend use of the scuba life-support rental package if you complete your ocean dives with us during one of our Monterey or Channel Islands weekends.

Step 3 - Ocean Scuba Dives

To complete your PADI Open Water Diver certification, you will need to demonstrate that you have mastered the skill you have learned in the pool during 4 Open Water Dives over at least 2 days of diving. Most divers will complete these dives during one weekend (2 dives on Saturday and 2 more on Sunday). The instructor fee for the ocean is $100 per day for up to 2 dives per day. We plan training dive days for both Monterey (shore diving) and the Channel Islands in Southern CA off the coast from Ventura (Boat Diving).

During Monterey weekends, we offer morning dives or afternoon dives and sometimes a night dive for certified divers on Saturday night.

During Channel Islands weekends you will have the opportunity to comlete up to 3 dives per day from the boat.
